June 10 - 12 - PW Synod Gathering
News and Notes – May
  • June 2nd - Spring Gathering

The June Gathering will be June 2nd at 12:30 pm in Westminster Hall.  There will be Installation of Officers', Birthday offering, and Claudia Kirby's presentation of the Mission trip to Cuba.  You may wish to invite friends to hear about Cuba.  We will collect monies for Restoration Ministries' food pantry.

The PW Synod Gathering is June 10-12 at the Geneva Center, Rochester, Indiana.  The theme is "Retreat in the Spirit".  The cost for the conference is $155.  The deadline has past, but if interested, please contact Charlene Bremer, 352-0961 or charlenebremer@yahoo.com.

"Living our Friendship, Passing on the Keys" was the theme of the May 6th Church Women United's Friendship Day.  This year, the women of First  Presbyterian Church honored Cassie McConkey.  In the past our PW group honored the following women: Sabrina Hwu - 2002, Erin Boucek- 2003, Karen Pollard - 2004, Valerie Straayer-Goldsmith - 2006, Annalisa Cockerham - 2007, Sarah Laufenberg - 2009, Cassie McConkey-2011.

Mother's Day cards were sold in Westminister Hall.  A total of 180 cards were sold, and $1,960 was donated.

Our crib project has given empty tomb another 10 cribs.  What a wonderful project our women give to families who cannot purchase a crib.  Booties or socks, blankets (crib or receiving) and sleepers (0-3 mos. or 3-6 mos.) are still needed.

Kniffty Knitters are knitting hats and scarves for women at Austin's Place, and for Women in Transition.  The group is always knitting for Best Interest of Chirldren.  There is a new project to help women of Cuba who have had a mastectomy, with no reconstruction surgery.  We are knitting breast prostheses.  Come join the group on the second and fourth Mondays, 1:00-3:00 pm.

The Meals on Wheels ministry has received a book from Family Services for our help delivering food.  Rita Blockman and Kimberly Morin authored the book Listening to the Wisest of All.  It will be in the church library.  Nancy needs help to deliver food July 18 thru 22.  We prefer to have 2 people on a team.  If you can help, call Nancy Brombaugh, 356-2817

Our church will be hosting the Presbytery of Southeat IL conference.  This will be on September 15.  Between 110 and 115 ministers will attend.  Besides set up, help is needed on that day to collect tickets, serve coffee and pastries.  Lunch will be sandwiches, salads and dessert.  We are asking for salads from Faith circle, dessert from Peace circle and help with the morning coffee fro Joy circle.

The churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women will be help in Orlando, Florida, July 18-22, 2012.  Our PW women will be encouraged to attend.  It is a time to learn, socialize, and become enlightrtened, through our Lord, about Presbyterian Women and what we do.

It has been my pleasure to serve as moderator this past year.  THanks to everyone who has helped me!!  With your help Barbara Fuller-Curry, moderator-elect, will do a great job!
